Configuration Guide

Email notification configuration

Configure your iQBus deployment to send notification emails through your own Office 365 tenant. This is a one-time setup that takes about 10 minutes.

1
Step One
Create the App Registration

Go to entra.microsoft.com and sign in. In the left menu, expand the Identity section, then select Applications › App registrations. Click New registration in the top toolbar.

Fill in the registration form with the following values:

FieldValue
NameSomething descriptive, e.g. iQBus Email Sender
Supported account typesAccounts in this organizational directory only (Single tenant)
Redirect URILeave blank

Click Register to create the application.

Microsoft Entra ID | App registrations NEW REGISTRATION Register an application Name* iQBus Email Sender Supported account types* Accounts in this organizational directory only (Single tenant) Accounts in any organizational directory (Multitenant) Accounts in any organizational directory and personal Microsoft accounts Redirect URI (optional) Select a platform e.g. https://example.com/auth Leave both of these empty. iQBus does not use a redirect URI. Register
What happens next: After clicking Register you will be taken directly into the newly created app registration. Leave this page open, the next steps continue here.

2
Step Two
Create a Client Secret

In the left menu of your app registration, select Certificates & secrets. Click New client secret to open the panel on the right.

Add a client secret CERTIFICATES & SECRETS Description iQBus Email Secret Expires 730 days (24 months) Add Cancel

Give the secret a meaningful description (e.g. iQBus Email Secret) and choose an expiry period. 730 days (24 months) is a reasonable default. Click Add.

i
Set a calendar reminder. Note the exact expiry date and put a reminder in your calendar for one week before it expires. When a client secret expires the email notifications will stop working until you create a new secret and update the configuration in iQBus.

Once the secret is created it appears in the list. Copy the Value immediately, this is the only time it will be shown in full. After you navigate away it will be masked and cannot be recovered.

Client secrets CERTIFICATES & SECRETS DESCRIPTION EXPIRES VALUE SECRET ID iQBus Email Secret 9/17/2028 xxxxxxxx~xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx... xxxxxxxx-xxxx-4d... Copy this one, now. It is masked as soon as you leave the page. Not this one.
⚠️
Copy the Value now, not the Secret ID. The Value is the long string in the highlighted column. Save it somewhere secure (e.g. your password manager), you will need it in Step 4.

3
Step Three
Configure API Permissions

In the left menu, select API permissions. Click Add a permission. In the panel that opens, select Microsoft Graph, it is the first tile in the top row.

Select Application permissions (not Delegated). In the search box type Mail. Locate the Mail section in the results, expand it, and check the following two permissions:

PermissionPurpose
Mail.SendAllows iQBus to send notification emails as any user in the tenant
Mail.ReadAllows iQBus to verify mailbox access and support future delivery confirmation features

Click Add permissions to save.

Request API permissions MICROSOFT GRAPH Delegated permissions Your application acts as the signed-in user Application permissions Your application runs without a signed-in user Mail MAIL WHAT IT ALLOWS Mail.Read Read mail in all mailboxes Mail.Send Send mail as any user Mail.ReadWrite Leave every other permission in the group unchecked Add permissions

Back on the API permissions page, you will see ⚠ Not granted warnings next to both permissions. You must now grant tenant-wide admin consent. Click Grant admin consent for [your tenant name] and confirm the prompt.

API permissions iQBus Email Sender + Add a permission Grant admin consent for [your tenant] PERMISSION TYPE ADMIN CONSENT STATUS Mail.Read Application Yes Not granted for [your tenant] Mail.Send Application Yes Not granted for [your tenant] Both rows stay red until you click Grant admin consent. After consent they read Granted, with a green check.
Admin role required for this step. The Grant admin consent button is only available to users with the Application Administrator, Cloud Application Administrator, or Global Administrator role. If you do not see it or it is greyed out, ask your IT administrator to complete this step.

4
Step Four
Configure iQBus

You need two more values from the app registration before switching over to iQBus. In the left menu select Overview. In the Essentials section, locate and copy:

ValueWhere to find it

Directory (tenant) IDEssentials section, left column, below the Client ID

Your own values go here. The Object ID is not one of them.

Now open iQBus. In the left menu expand Settings and select Email. Populate the Email Settings fields with the values you have collected:

The From address must be a valid mailbox in your Office 365 tenant. It does not need to be a shared mailbox, any licensed user mailbox will work. The address will appear as the sender on all iQBus notification emails.

Save your settings and verify the configuration by creating an Activity Notification in iQBus. If everything is configured correctly the notification email will be delivered.

Configuration complete

iQBus is now connected to your Office 365 tenant and ready to send notification emails. Remember to renew your client secret before it expires.
